December in Barcelona is always hailed as one of the most special times of year; the atmosphere is buzzing and filled with the smells of the castanyada roasting on streets corners. It’s the time of year when the streets begin to be filled with the winter sounds of the Christmas markets in Barcelona. It is an exciting time with lots of Barcelona events to see out the end of a year with family and friends and welcome in the new year with big hopes for the coming months. Well, here is a selection of some of the best events this December in Barcelona.

It’s time for one of the craziest Barcelona events! It’s time for the Buff Epic Run!! Held in the grounds of the Castel Montjuic, it’s a great chance to put on some fancy dress (the crazier, the better!) and get ready for a race you would probably never have imagined yourself doing in the great city of Barcelona!! Think Total Wipeout…..meets assault course!! Crawling through tunnels and mud baths, climbing over hay bale walls , running over tyres etc etc!! Many people dress up in a medieval theme, in keeping with the surroundings of Montjuic.  Check out their website for inspiration on costumes and what to expect on the day!

Originally scheduled for 2011, the first edition of this Barcelona event has been postponed for over a year. If you are a fan of any Motorsport and F1, then this is a great event for you! The Indoor Karting All Stars GP will feature 12 of the best drivers/riders in the world from across the world of Motorsport, including 6 World Champions across the various sports. Local Barcelona boy and MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo will be one of them!! Some other names to watch out for are top rally driver Dani Sordo, Catalan Indy Car Series Pro, Oriol Servià and current F1 drivers including Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi, Bruno Senna, Paul di Resta, Adrian Sutil, Jerôme d’Ambrosio, and Vitoantonio Liuzzi. The 12 drivers must navigate an indoor track measuring 420m in length with about 10 turns, each driving the same kart: the Interprid brand catergory KZ1, manufactured by one of the most prestigious Italian brands!


Ice Skating Rink in Barcelona

For the second year running there will be an outdoor covered ice skating rink in Barcelona at Placa Catalunya! Yeah! Here’s a fabulous Barcelona event to help you  relive your teenager years (minus the shellsuits and mullets!!) The ice skating rink in Barcelona measures an area of area of 1200m2 making it the largest outdoor ice skating rink in Europe. You can hire the skates there and there is a cafeteria for hot drinks to keep you warm. There are also a couple more places in Barcelona where you can go ice skating over the Christmas period. Check out the outdoor ice skating rink in Gracia at Passeig de Sant Joan from 5 December to 8 January and also the rink at the Pedralbes Centre.
