Barcelona Real Estate Porn: Eco-friendly in Sant Cugat

Barcelona Real Estate Porn: This House Has Some Major Wood

Hey there SuitLifers! Welcome to our brand new series called “Barcelona Real Estate Porn”, where we’ll look at apartments and houses mostly within Barcelona that salaciously appeal to us for any number of reasons. We’ll also try and highlight some of the most innovative designers, architects and thought leaders in the region.  This week we take a look at a beautiful wooden studio house by Spanish architecture firm Dom Architectura. Located just outside Barcelona in the wildly popular suburb of Sant Cugat, this simple and sexy looking house is not just built as eye candy ( although it IS gorgeous!) but it also incorporates a massive amount of eco planning so that you can live as one with nature without having to relocate to your nearest cave.  So lets all start thinking more eco-friendly and take a look at how Dom Architectura built the perfect modern day tree house!

eco friendly

The first thought put into the construction of this cabin was climate control. With the warm climate that is natural to Spain, it can get a bit too warm in the hot summer days. While spending time at the beach is an awesome idea, sometimes you just want to chill at home on those lazy summer days. To allow natural cooling the house was placed at the side of the hill, using the hill itself to block sun rays and allow the naturally down sweeping winds to cool the house. This ingenious design incorporates surrounding trees to grant extra shade for the house, which also has a two way ventilation system that allows winds to cool the house from top to bottom.  The front of the house has an exterior room that can be opened to grant further ventilation and protection from the sun.  With this kind of real estate you can say goodbye to your air conditioner!

And when it gets cold and rainy you ask? Dom Architectura already beat you to it! The exterior room we just mentioned can be hermetically sealed with windows to provide further insulation and gather sun rays. The trees surrounding the house were also brilliantly put into the equation taking in mind that they drop their leaves come winter and no longer block the sun (this part really shows you how thoroughly this concept was hashed out). The roof of the house comes with solar panels to collect electricity from the sun and water is collected from rain to be later repurposed for your garden.
