La Flauta Barcelona is some what of a “hotspot” here on the Barcelona restaurant scene and when it comes to Barcelona Tapas, many consider it to be the best restaurant in Barcelona, and I must add that if I was to take a guest out to a restaurant in Barcelona, La Flauta would be my very first choice. Located on Aribau (the same street as our SuiteLife office), La Flauta is situated a little way out of Barcelona city center. It’s tremendously popular with the business men and women who work in and around the local area, and of course, clued in tourists/SuiteLifers such as your self. For this reason, I would thoroughly recommend it for those of you who want to experience a less “touristy” Barcelona restaurant.
A Barcelona Tapas Restaurant for the young, the old, the rich and the…well, not poor, but you catch my drift.
Impressively, La Flauta restaurant has been around for 25 years or so, providing its clientèle with an informal, fast and high value service. My first impression of this Barcelona restaurant, was that it was very “high profile” and perhaps a little too “you-aint-coming-in-here-dressed-like-that” for me, if you know what I mean. There was a queue out on to the street and that was just for lunch on a Tuesday. However, La Flauta offers a little something for everybody. Much like La Dolca Herminia which I wrote about in my other article, La Flauta restaurant in Barcelona is one of those places where you would feel comfortable wearing either your best suit or just your casual clothes, there’s no snobbery here. The décor is smart and stylish, but by no means pretentious. This lends it self well to the eclectic customer base La Flauta has developed over the last two-and-a-half decades.
What on earth does “La Flauta” mean?
La Flauta, translates literally as “The Flute“, although it is named after a different kind of flute than the one you are probably thinking of right now. As well as being an amazing tapas restaurant, La Flauta restaurant offers an elaborate selection of sandwiches, which are made from a long, thin type of bread. Amazingly, the fillings change throughout the year, depending on what is available in the local markets, so it really is as fresh as you like. These sandwiches are called “Flautas“, hence forth my fellow Barcelonians, the origin of…….La Flauta Restaurant.
This handsome Barcelona restaurant is spread out over 2 floors, each floor having it’s own little atmosphere, with it’s own team of waiters, running around like mad men. When I went with my colleagues from the language academy, for our Christmas party, we were given our own little section on the top floor. As we sat around a large round table, I couldn’t help but recollect The Last Supper painting in my mind!
Barcelona tapas, as we have mentioned in our many other Tapas Restaurant blogs, can be hit and miss. If you want a central Barcelona restaurant, with great service, quality Barcelona tapas and a great Spanish atmosphere, La Flauta is the place for you!
